During this example the follower is now the one that sweeps the leaders foot. Remember to keep your feet together throughout the whole Barrida and leaders use little pressure… It is all an illusion! It is simply a normal step from point A to B that has been slightly embellished. | http://urban-tango.com

In the last example we used a change of embrace to perform a sweep behind the leaders back. The follower is still doing the turn around the leader (back, side, front). Leaders don’t forget to get that sacada in after the sweep… | http://urban-tango.com

In tonight’s tango lesson we learned about Juan D’Arienzo and his Orchestra. Known as El Rey del Compás (The King of Rhythm), D’Arienzo was a key figure in the early revival of tango, in the mid 1930′s. We explored some of his first recordings for Victor, a recording with Héctor Mauré from 1942, and the mid-50′s LOCA, shown above in a live recording. Below are are El Flete (1936) and Claudinette (1942) | http://urban-tango.com

In today’s Intermediate/Advanced tango class we continued our work on Enrosques. In this sequence we used what we called a “fake” enrosque for the leader. We called it “fake” because during this enrosque the leader has mostly his weight on both feet. Remember to keep your weight on your metatarsus while spinning. Finish the enrosque on your left foot and draw a lapiz with your right to embellish the followers turn. | http://urban-tango.com

In the second sequence, the follower was lead into an enrosque, from an overturned cross. In this case there is a lead for a weight change, so the follower exits with her back leg. Keep in mind our suggestion and search for the different possibilities you can find through this enrosque. | http://urban-tango.com

In tonight’s Intermediate/Advanced tango lesson we worked on Enrosques for the leader and follower. In this sequence we applied both. The leader starts the turn to his left by opening his upper-body, delaying his own turn and initiates the enrosque with the heal. The follower allows her upper-body to follow the lead for the pivot, but delays her hips. | http://urban-tango.com
South Philly Tango Class BEGINNER (OCT/3/11)

In tonight’s tango beginner lesson we learned the followers cross, in parallel (Basic Step). Remember to face each other when the leader steps out of the followers track. In the second version, instead of stepping together the leader steps around the follower, still leading her to the cross but moving in the opposite direction. | http://urban-tango.com
